March 4, 2007 Visit to see the Farm House

We met today with Wally to see how his renovation of the farmhouse is progressing. Wally has offered to sell us the house and 50 acres for $212,000.00.

After touring the house, we decided that, while a great deal of work has been done, we felt the project was more than we can handle.

We made a counter offer to purchase 30-35 acres of the pasture that adjoins our woodland for $1,500.00 per acre.

This pasture has been idle for many years and was probably last mowed ten years ago. There is a large creek that runs the entire north / south distance and several smaller streams that join the main stream. These streams flood several times each year. Black locust trees are volunteering as is autumn olive. The streams are lined with black willow and sycamore trees. We have seen large monarch butterfly migrations here, as well as wild turkey, coyotes, and of course, deer. A broad wing hawk regularly hunts here.

After our visit with Wally, we drove over to see the new owners of the property directly west of our woodland. We were amused to see that although the new owners purchased 98 acres, they have a new prefabed house and a new pond right up to the road. It is a gravel road with little traffic, but we would have put the house back a bit for privacy.
